Current Foundation Projects - May 2008

The Children’s Shelter of Hope Foundation continues to be a major, active part of the financial picture for the Refugio and Pasitos de Luz.  Over the past couple of years we have concentrated primarily on raising funds to cover basic needs – staff salaries, utility bills, food, hygiene, medical bills, etc.  – the basic bones which allow the Refugio and Pasitos to continue to operate and offer excellent care to the children.  We currently donate approximately $7,000 US per month to the Refugio, including money to pay the salary for the wonderful administrator, Sol.  In addition, we have done special fundraising for start-up costs at the Transition Home; tuition for private school education for some of the children; surgery to correct Ceci’s vision problems; support of dental teams and other groups doing specialized work; and most recently, a drive for “wheels” for the Refugio (the Refugio has no vehicle to pick up glean food from Costco and the hotels, nor to take children to the doctor). 
At Pasitos de Luz, we have recently increased our commitment to $2,200 US per month being used to pay staff members to care for these special needs children and also for purchasing necessary food and cleaning supplies.
