Our Feature Child
Brenda is the second daughter of Mrs. Bertha, a mother with mental impairments. The oldest daughter Ana Karen also attends Pasitos de Luz, and has major learning difficulties. Brenda's mother loves the girls a lot and is very caring. |
Pasitos' Progress ![]() The slogan Aqui Vamos Paso a Pasito is found on the Pasitos de Luz Web site www.pasitosdeluz.org The meaning is clearly reflected in the miracles accomplished at Pasitos with their exceptional children with disabilities. With patient support from the staff, Luis has learned to walk and feed himself; Manuelito responds with a smile when spoken to; Abi is learning to trace letters and numbers; Abril recites songs; Bebe enjoys nutritious food every day ? small steps to major chances for each of these children and many others at this amazing center. As well, their space has changed some this spring. ![]() Funds from Projecto Vive (a government program which offers matching funds for capital improvement projects for nonprofits) allowed Pasitos to develop a new, larger kitchen and dining area where the children now enjoy their breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Another space has been transferred into an enlarged physical therapy area, where more children receive stimulation so essential to their health and development. Unfortunately, a step backwards right now is in the number of staff members and volunteers at Pasitos. Reduced donations, less long-term visitors, and the current H1N1 flu media bombshell are definitely impacting this small daycare center. Pasitos administrator Yolanda, now fears that they may have to close for a couple of days per week through the summer months. Please help by sending a donation marked for Pasitos right away so that these children can continue to take their small steps forward. The United Mothers for the Rehabilitation of their children AC was officially recognized as a Mexican charity on November 22, 2000. |
